In order to meet our aims TFS undertakes
tool collections throughout NI. Tools sought include all carpentry,
building, blacksmithing, mechanics, shoemaking and sewing tools.
TFS also collects sewing machines.
All the tools collected are sent to our workshops in Belfast or
Downpatrick where they are refurbished. This involves de-rusting,
cleaning, sharpening, grinding and putting on new handles. The quality
of work achieved is extremely high.
TFS is run entirely by volunteers. They collect and refurbish the
tools, make boxes for the shipments, carry out the administration,
undertake publicity work, train new volunteers and provide supervision
for people on sheltered placements, organise events such as weekend
and international workcamps, raise awareness of sustainable development
by outreach work with community groups, scout clubs, schools etc.
and conduct fundraising to keep the organisation going.
If you are interested, you can come and work with us! TFS is run
by volunteers, local & foreigner.ƒAlso, TFS works with
Eirene, a German organisation for conscientious objectors. One member
of the team is usually coming through Eirene.
TFS takes part to the EVS (European Voluntary Service) scheme,
which allows young people from European countries to spend a year
abroad doing voluntary work.
If you want to know more about having a volunteer experience with
TFS through EVS or Eirene and current international volunteers have
created their own page, "The volunteers page and translations"
where you can find info in your own language.
TFS works in conjunction with a number of organisations working
with people with special needs to provide work placements. At present
we have volunteers with physical and learning disabilities, as well
as teenagers with behavioural problems. At present time, TFS works
with other local organisations to place supported volunteers, people
with disabilities or special needs. They come over once or more
days a week and help in the workshop activities ƒand have looooooooots
of fun! |
